This year marks the 40th anniversary of the opening of the first Carpenters’ Autumn Exhibition, which showcased furniture in keeping with the spirit and statutes of the SE-association: new and experimental furniture of high quality in terms of use, craftsmanship and artistry. It was also the first in a long series of exhibitions, of which this year SE are opening number 40.

The title of this year’s exhibition is Time, Tact & Tone. A theme that illustrates both how SE is an association with a long history and that it is a living association that welcomes the future with new understandings of the times we live in and how they are reflected in the furniture we surround ourselves with.

Tact and tone can be interpreted in terms of content and form, as tact and tone denote both the ways in which we humans are together – often with respectful manners and in the light of social rules that change over time – and the formal dimension, which speaks to the rhythm and pace, colour and tone of a piece of furniture.

Danish furniture designers have a long and good tradition of innovation and a good understanding of the demands of the times, and SE supports the good work with its experimental and innovative approach to furniture design.

This year SE are exhibiting at Sophienholm Kunsthal, a nice collaboration as Sophienholm is an exciting place that both relates to its own history and enriches its surroundings culturally.

Time, Tact & Tone is an exhibition that offers a professional and experimental take on what furniture should be able to do in 2021, in light of the new demands that contemporary society places on form, function and production. So go and explore this year’s wide range of furniture, each interpreting the theme of Time, Tact & Tone in its own way.
