Ivan Weiss, born in 1946, is an important Danish ceramist and a contemporary master at making large, freely thrown and modeled stoneware vessels. His unique works are characterized by a combination of Scandinavian minimalism and Japanese expressionism. These pieces require a technical mastery of material, form and decoration in a physical and artistic balance, resulting in free sculptures. Ivan Weiss was trained as a painter at the legendary Royal Copenhagen Porcelain Manufactory, where he excelled from 1972- 2003. Highly inspired by Japanese ceramic art and Chinese porcelain, Ivan Weiss is internationally acclaimed for his unique vocabulary combining free calligraphy with strong textures and vivid colors.

Ivan Weiss works have been exhibited in museums worldwide and are included in the permanent collections of various important museums such as the Cooper-Hewitt Museum, New York; The International Museum of Ceramics, Faenza, Italy; Dordrecht Museum, Holland; Museum Boymans-van Beuningen, Rotterdam, Holland; Museum of Decorative Arts, Copenhagen; The Pennsylvania State University Museum of Art; Trapholt Museum, Kolding, Denmark; National Museum, Stockholm, Sweden and The Carmignac Foundation, France.
